The early and mid-part of April was dictated by persistent cloudy and overcast weather which created havoc with the solar systems as reserve occupancy at the time was approaching its Easter peak.

The early signs of Autumn are certainly upon us, comfortable warm days that are followed by evenings where temperatures are peaking in the high teens.

The subject of the Polyphagos Shot Hole Borer (Euwallacea whitfordiodendrus) was first mentioned in a Reserve Report in March 2019. 

February was an unusually dry summer month with only 7.8 mm of rain falling, compared to the long term average of 70.9 mm for the month of February.

On the 21st of January 2022 an African Barred Owlet was bought into the office.

At the risk of sounding repetitive, I am finding this summer’s weather rather bizarre.

December has again produced some of the more unusual summer weather that seems to be trending this year, namely warm overcast days which are periodically interrupted by short rainfall spells, storms, and high humidity.

As the year slowly draws to a close, we take this time to reflect on our accomplishments, challenges and observations over the preceding 12 months.

November at Ingwelala has historically been quieter with member occupation and it follows that a quieter game viewing experience is had.

An eventful busy October has now passed as summer and the associated rainfall is slowly making an appearance.

September has arrived and Spring is upon us, looking at the temperatures experienced one may be forgiven for thinking we were mid-summer. .

August has traditionally always been the windy month in the Lowveld, the distinctive catalyst month between the drier colder winter months and the arrival of spring and the new growth season.

Autumn is a special and comfortable time in the bush, daytime temperatures are regularly peaking in the high 20’s, with a comfortable low in the evenings reaching the lower teens.

March arrived with the onset of the early Autumn, marked by the evening temperatures becoming slightly cooler to more comfortable levels which is a welcome break from the previous six months summer heat.

It was with great sadness that we learned in the early part of the reporting period the collared elephant bull, known as Matambu, was found dead on a neighbouring property.
