It has long been the desire of the Board to build an in-camp water treatment plant to provide potable (fit for human consumption) water in the camp.
As presented at the AGM (Annual General Meeting) the following are the major selling features of this new and exciting offer to members and users:
Primary Objectives of the Project:
- To provide all members, users and staff with a quality, potable, water supply, at a far better price than pre-packaged water.
- To reduce the mountain of single use plastic entering and leaving the camp. This year we will process close to 8500 plastic water bottles alone, and the impact of this single-use plastic on the environment is considerable. The cost to remove these plastic containers from the camp is high.
- Current selling price for a 5L water bottle is R27.80 in the shop. This = R5.56 per litre.
- 5L bottles make up 35% of all water bottles sold in the shop.
- To cover operating costs and keep things simple, a flat monthly fee of R30 (R1.00 per day) will be added to each bungalows account, for unlimited use of the water.
- We will continue to sell all sizes of water in the shop. (still / sparkling)
- Laboratory testing has been done on the water and the results are very good. This water is “fit for human consumption”. Testing will continue each month and results made available on request.
- Reusable 5/10/20L containers will be sold in the shop.
- Standard Operating Procedures and logs will be in place to ensure the correct protocols, hygiene and technical standards are maintained. Filters and lights will be changed when scheduled.
- Water will be available at the newly built RO (Reverse Osmosis) water plant next to the garage forecourt.
- Members will need to supply their own re-fillable containers. Water will be available during normal work hours, but to limit tampering by baboons and monkeys, the taps will be shut off after-hours.
- Please follow the suggested hygiene steps to keep your re-fillable container free from contamination. There will be signage at the re-fill point to help you. Sterilisation products will be sold in the shop.
To encourage early adoption and usage of our in-camp RO water, the Board are pleased to announce that the water will be offered for FREE during December and January. This gives the RO plant a chance to iron out any potential kinks in the system whilst also evaluating the level of uptake and acceptance by the users.
