During the month there were various snakes and scorpions encountered in camp and on the reserve.
This included a Mozambique Spitting Cobra that was safely relocated from Elephant Pan Hide (see images below of the release), and various scorpions encountered.
Unfortunately, there was also a scorpion sting by a Parabuthus transvaalicus during the month, which is the most severe scorpion sting regionally, and can be life-threatening.
Luckily, there were doctors on site, who assisted immediately, and the Member who was stung was taken to hospital. We wish the Member a speedy recovery and would like to thank the doctors who responded so quickly!
This serves a strong reminder that snake and scorpion encounters will continue to increase during the wet season.
This is particularly relevant during overcast and humid days, when these creatures are more likely to be moving around, or on hot days when they are likely to be seeking shelter in cooler areas - especially within or surrounding infrastructure.
Please use caution when entering bungalows, porches, hides, bomas or any other infrastructure. Wear closed shoes, and check your bedding, towels, clothes and shoes before making use of them.
