A Lookback at some Historical Sightings

Looking back at historical sightings can provide us with a lot of valuable information for conservation but can also give us a great laugh too!

We have been going through old sightings books as part of a study aimed at predator-prey interactions in this area over the years.

This data is being manually collected with as much detail as possible. Considering the amazing information written into the sightings books as far back as 1999, and some true rarities recorded as well, we decided it would be wonderful to record how sightings in general have changed over the years at Ingwelala and share some highlight sightings with you from the past!

Our favourite rarities so far include a few sightings of sable and reedbuck recorded in the early 2000's, and plenty of caracal and other small predator sightings.
