African Scops Owl

The African Scops Owl is the smallest owl species in Africa with a weight between 50-90 grams.

They are well camouflaged, looking just like the tree branches and twigs where they roost during the day. They are nocturnal, hunting at night for beetles, locusts, moths, scorpions, spiders, and even small birds and rodents. Scops Owl has a beautiful distinct call “prrrp” or “kurr”. Hornbills have been known to kill Scops Owls and their young for using their nest sites.
