The soccer team itself is all male and when necessary supplemented by Motswari staff to make up a full team. The ladies, Selinah and Felicia, play an important public relations role in promoting the team and helping with match arrangements. Chief opponents and arch rivals are Tanda Tula, Kings Camp, Klaserie and Motswari when each team has a full complement of players. Matches usually take place on Sunday afternoons. The venue is shared between the different teams who love hosting the weekly challenges.
The Hungry Lions team was formed over 30 years ago and regard 1997 as their most successful season. The 1997 winners team included the late Eric Masambo, a formidable and talented team player. The late Mishack Chiloane captained the team that year.
Bungalows # 39, # 104 and # 150 have in recent times donated kit to the team, for which the players are extremely appreciative and grateful. Good quality soccer balls are pricey, with the added challenge of rapid scuffing on the stony gravel playing surface.
In the past the previous owners of Bungalow # 37 organised friendly matches between the Members and Staff that were well supported and represented. The Hungry Lions hope that these friendly matches between Members and Staff can be rekindled as they provide loads of good fun and entertainment.
If you wish to support the Hungry Lions in any way or are available for selection in a “pick-up” friendly match please approach Selinah directly during your next visit to Ingwelala. Selinah is the head organiser of matches.
