Wisteria Tree

Our rare tree of the year this year is the Tree Wisteria (Balusanthus speciosus).

You may notice this tree species bursting with purple hanging flowers, almost like a bunch of grapes.

This is the only indigenous tree species in the area that sports bright purple flowers, and this makes it unique.

Many animal species eat the pods and leaves, including monkeys, giraffes and duikers. This tree is incredibly drought resistant and is one of the most spectacular pops of colour in the bush.

For more information on this tree, visit the SANBI website.
